Fort Greely

Fort Greely · Delta Junction, Alaska

Fort Greely is home to the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense system, a critical element of the nation's missile defense architecture, located deep in the interior of Alaska near Delta Junction. The installation is remote and small, positioned about 100 miles southeast of Fairbanks, and experiences some of the most extreme cold temperatures of any U.S. military installation with winter lows routinely reaching minus 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The isolation is real but the Alaska wilderness, aurora borealis, and tight unit community create a one-of-a-kind assignment.
