Eielson AFB is located 26 miles southeast of Fairbanks and is home to the 354th Fighter Wing flying F-35A Lightning IIs in the extreme cold of Interior Alaska. The installation serves as the premier Arctic combat training location in the US military, hosting the Red Flag-Alaska exercises that draw allied air forces from across the Pacific. Winters are severe with temperatures dropping to minus 60F, but summer brings the Midnight Sun and spectacular sub-Arctic beauty.
