01 · No State Income Tax in Wyoming

No State Income Tax in Wyoming

Wyoming is one of nine states with no state income tax, making it one of the most tax-favorable states for military servicemembers and retirees in the country.

No State Income Tax

Wyoming has no state income tax. All active duty military pay, National Guard and reserve pay, military retirement pay, and VA disability compensation are completely free from state income taxation. No exemptions to apply for, no forms to file, no income caps.

Military Retirement

Wyoming military retirees pay zero state income tax on retired pay. Combined with Wyoming's no-tax status on Social Security and low property taxes, Wyoming is consistently ranked among the most financially advantageous states for military retirees.

VA Disability Compensation

VA disability payments are not subject to any Wyoming state tax. Federal exemption applies as always.

Spouse Income

Military spouses working in Wyoming also benefit from no state income tax on their wages. This is a meaningful financial advantage for dual-income military families.

No Corporate or Personal Income Tax

Wyoming's no-income-tax policy is constitutionally grounded and includes both personal and corporate income. It is not subject to annual legislative reversal in the way that statutory exemptions can be.

Do this next. Wyoming's no-income-tax status requires no action from servicemembers or veterans. Simply being a Wyoming resident or domiciliary means no state income tax on any income source.

Wyoming offers strong property tax protections for disabled veterans alongside already-low statewide property tax rates.

100% P&T Disabled Veterans

Surviving Spouse Retention

The surviving spouse of a qualifying disabled veteran retains the property tax exemption as long as they do not remarry and continue to occupy the home as their primary residence.

Wyoming Low Property Tax Rates

Wyoming's effective property tax rates are among the lowest in the country, benefiting all military homeowners. F.E. Warren families in the Cheyenne area pay significantly lower property taxes than comparable homes at duty stations in higher-tax states.

No Estate or Inheritance Tax

Wyoming has no estate tax and no inheritance tax, a long-term financial planning advantage for military families and retirees building generational wealth.
